Recently, I read a blog titled, “12 Types of Tech Zealots: How to Spot Them in the Wild”  It’s confirmed. Our whole company is nothing but a Google Groupie.  The big news, Google just delivered the Google Apps Marketplace (

Google Apps Marketplace is a place where you can find products and services that are designed for Google users.  Some of the applications directly integrate with Google Apps.  They have the marketplace divided into 2 areas:  Product and Services.  Under products, there are functional categories such as Accounting, Document Management, and Workflow.  Service categories include, Google Analytics, Training & Change Management, and Custom Application Development.

As you browse through the categories, a two or three line description of the application is shown.  If you want more information, you can click the link and read more information about the product.  Most products give a 30-day free trial with subscription based pricing thereafter.  There are also free products on the marketplace, too.

A few months ago, I blogged about “The Secret of Saving Money on Email”. The blog talked about public sectors that are embracing Google Apps for their email platform.  The Google marketplace offers extensions to the apps that are included in Google Apps (Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Sites, Google Video).  One of the applications extends Microsoft Office applications with Google Docs and Google Apps for FREE.    There is a backup application for Google Docs to download documents to a local directory keeping intact the folder structure.  Again, FREE for single mailbox user.

If you have a hesitation about embracing SaaS (software as a service) or PaaS(platform as a service), if you need to see evidence of how SaaS could benefit your company, this is a good place to start.  Stick your big toe in the water, and try one of the applications.

Share your successes or concerns with SaaS or PaaS services in the comments to this blog.
